A Prayer

God,

I have no clue. I don’t understand, I don’t know, and I can’t make sense of any of it. You are my God. You knew me before I was born. You shaped me from infancy. You brought me through childhood and made me a man. You looked over all my experiences and used the joys and the sorrows to shape me into what I am. What am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? How will I get there? When will you send me? Who will I be? I do not understand.

The only thing I can do is close my eyes and follow the sound of your voice. You will lead me around the snare and the pitfalls. You will keep me from be washed away by the rivers. You will keep me safe on the journey. When I stumble and when I fall I trust that you will bring me out. My desire is to obey you in everything I do. My disobedience is great, but your glory is greater. Let me bring glory to you and not discord. Motivate me to do your will, especially when it is not my will. Build up my trust everyday. Help me to be obedient to your still small voice.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
