Bezalel and his buddy Oholiab get busy building. They build the Ark, the table, the lampstands, the Incense Alter, the Burnt Offering Alter, the Washbasin, the Courtyard, and the priestly garments, ephod, chestpiece, and other garments.
If I were preaching this text I have no idea what I would say. I could get into the history of these artifacts and talk about their importance. I’m really fascinated with these two characters Bezalel and Oholiab and would love to put together a skit with them as the two main characters. I can picture them trying to train amateurs to be craftsmen, or arguing that God’s plan doesn’t make as much sense as one of their plans, or as a Laurel and Hardy skit, or something else entirely. That would be fun.
However, I’m still not really sure what I would preach. I might focus on how God seems to care about the details. He cares about the dimensions of the ark, and that the washbasin is made of bronze, and that the courtyard has the right number of posts. After all, this is God’s place to dwell and He cares about the details. In our life, God cares about the details. God cares about the details of our lives, our churches, our ministries, our jobs, our relationships; God cares about the details.
